The group was formed in 1994 by cousins Romeo and Henry Santos and brothers Max and Lenny Santos. They originally went by the name Los Teenagers (The Teenagers). They later decided to change their name to Aventura. In 2004 Romeo Santos married a dominican girl name Aries. They had 2 kids and lived in dominican rep. for two years then moved to New York. In 1999, Aventura signed with BMG. Three years later they gained recognition with the album We Broke the Rules and the smash hit "Obsesión", now a staple at Latin dance venues around the world. In 2005, Frankie J did an English cover of the song and saw success with it and the remixes that followed. The cousins (Anthony and Henry Santos) and brothers (Max and Lenny Santos) are not related even though they do have the last name. Each pair comes from a different family.
